To Prepare: In-Car Instructor to teach Modules 1-5 of the ten in-car modules of the National Institute’s Traffic Safety Education Curriculum.

Qualifications: Teacher candidate must meet current educational prerequisite standards.

Time Structure: This will be a 45-hour course, conducted in no less than 4 weeks.

Course Content and Key Behavioral Patterns:
The teacher candidate must demonstrate knowledge and successful in-vehicle performance as a driver and as a teacher of the following:
    Module 1 Key Behavioral Patterns
  1. Approach a vehicle with awareness
  2. Have key in hand
  3. Head restraint adjusted
  4. Butt in seat
  5. Safety belts on
  6. Windows up - Doors locked
  7. Headlights on during day
  8. Use of brake
  9. Use of acceleration
  10. Uses of shift - Use open palm shifting
  11. Use of steering wheel
  12. Use of central vision
  13. Use of fringe vision
  14. Driving for targets
  15. Recovery of steering
  16. Turn head before steering

    Module 2 Key Behavioral Patterns
  1. Use of reference points for visual judgement of vehicle positioning
  2. Side position reference points for turns
  3. Forward position reference points for turns
  4. Use of signal lights
  5. Legal stops
  6. Smooth stops
  7. Target usage for turns
  8. Search intersection’s left, front, right zones
  9. Look into turns before steering
  10. Steering and steering recovery

    Module 3 Key Behavioral Patterns
  1. Targeting Through Curves
  2. Searching to Target Area
  3. Evaluating Target Area
